National Space Centre Leicester November 12th & 13th 2005
The UK Garrison held a Star Wars weekend at the National Space Centre, Leciester, which included star signings from the Star Wars universe. The weekend was well supported by the Garrison with an array of characters from C3PO, R2D2, Boba and Jango Fett, Gamorian Guard, Imperial Forces, Sith Lords as well as Jedi’s and rebels. Crowds entering the event were stopped at security check points by Stormtroopers and were watched carefully by Darth Vader and Darth Maul much to the delight of the crowds.

This was my second troop with the Garrison and I must say I had a fantastic time and was made to feel very welcome by everyone. Thanks to Simon for lending me his Rom/Fx voice amp on the Sunday, my trooper spoke for the first time! The whole weekend was just brilliant and I must say meeting Andrew Ainsworth was very cool as was meeting everyone who attended the event.

Jo’s First Troop with the UK Garrison 10-11-05

Earlier this month Jo attended her first troop with the UK Garrison at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham for the Cadburys Sales conference. With the theme of the event being all things sci-fi, the MD of Cadburys wanted a Star Wars theme to his part of the day’s proceedings. With him dressed in a Jedi robe and lightsabre, the MD started his part of the event with a clip from Star Wars on the big screen of the fight between Obi Wan and Darth Vader.

This was shortly followed by the Imperial March tune striking up and in a room with several hundred Cadbury employees all wondering what was next, in walked 2 Stormtroopers followed by Darth Vader.

Once down at the front the 2 Troopers stood either side of the aisle and let Darth Vader pass and onto the staged area where the MD was waiting. The audience loved every minute as Darth Vader battled with the MD in a lightsabre duel on stage, of course the MD Jedi banished Darth and calm was restored to the Universe. The 2 troopers then escorted the next speaker on stage before they left the auditorium keeping a watchful eye on the audience!

The event went really well and the UK Garrison was well received, and the best bit of all.... They were paid in chocolate!!!!

Thanks for making my first troop so great, thanks to Simon, event co-ordinator for the Garrison, my fellow trooper Steve and Cliff as Darth Vader. Cheers Guys. (Oh and Cadburys for the chocolate )

Jo's Art Design for Nottingham Market Square
Art Design
Photo shoot for the Nottingham Evening Post newspaper - Jo attended a press release for the launch of an art competition - Pride of Nottingham. LINK

Jo was invited down in August last year with her friend Tony as Robin Hood and Maid Marion by Nottingham City Council to produce a couple of paintings for a series of images to go on the hoardings that are surrounding the Market Square. The Market Square is currently going through a major overhaul, dignitaries and members of the public were invited to submit a drawing or painting that is associated with a Nottingham image.

Jo's design entitled "Nottingham Beauty"

The images that were selected have been enlarged and printed on boards and are now on display in the centre of Nottingham.
Jo - With no preparation beforehand I was wondering what to do, and with the press and television in attendance there was a bit of pressure too. I normally set out what I am about to paint in advance so I know how I'm going to do things whenever I have done a painting before. I saw a brochure on the table next to me about whats on in Nottingham, as it happened there was an exhibition of Pre-Raphalite paintings at the Castle. I saw an image I liked and within an hour I produced the picture. So if anyone gets a chance to get to Nottingham within the next few months, my artwork is there for all to see! Apologies for the quality of the photo as I only had my mobile phone handy to take the photo.
Update* The hoardings have now been removed with the opening of the new market square due on 24th March 2007.*
