The Lookey Likey Show - Granada TV

Jo was approached through an agency to appear in a new television series called The Lookalike Show (working title). Granada Television are making the new TV series for the ITV2 channel which will be aired sometime this April.

The show uses celebrity lookalikes to create funny scenes with the general public. They are put into environments that are completely obscure to the real celebrity which results in very funny scenes.

There will be Camila Parker Bowls serving Tea and Coffee at a truckers stop and George Clooney auditioning the general public for his new blockbuster film which is being filmed in Bolton! These are the kind of scenes you can expect to see in this new series.
Jo was asked to appear as Xena and spent the day filming what Xena would do on her day off! Jo was filmed going around an Asda store in Manchester as Xena doing her grocery shopping and bumping into fellow super hero character, Wonder Woman! The 2 heroines are then seen going shopping together in the middle of Manchester amongst other silly sketches. It was a very cold day for filming but a lot of fun!

Further details of the television schedule of when it will be aired will be posted here when known.

*Update* The show was aired in November 2006 on ITV 2

Nottingham Queens Medical Centre 7th January 2006
The UK Garrison visited the childrens wards bearing gifts on a belated Christmas visit with an array of popular colourful movie characters. As the hospital was unable to accommodate the Garrison's visit over the busy Christmas period, a later date was arranged when things were a little quieter. Due to the number of Garrison members in attendance, it was decided 2 groups would be practical so not to crowd the wards. In one group you had the Star Wars troop consisting of Darth Vader, Boba Fett, several Stormtroopers, a Jedi and Padme. In the second group you had the intrepid Ghostbusters and Batman with Andy's fantastic C3PO being wheeled around in an NHS roll cage! Due to the incredible restrictive nature of his costume, the only way Andy could have got around all the wards was with a little help from the NHS!!

The age of the children ranged from very young babies to teenagers. Many of the children had their families with them when we visited and they appreciated us as much as the children. The one thing that a lot of people forget is that the families need support as much as the family member who is ill. It can be a very stressful time for all involved when someone is seriously ill and the carers are sometimes overlooked in it all, so it was really a double pleasure to put smiles on everyones faces. A few younger children were a little frightened when the stormtroopers appeared but were soon reassured that things were ok when the Garrison members removed their helmets to show there were smiling faces behind the scary helmets (in most cases!)
One of the Garrison members managed to get his company to donate a portable television and another donation of a playstation 2 for the childrens wards which was very much appreciated and will certainly be put to good use by the children.

The look on the sick childrens faces was lovely to see, it was obvious some were very ill and in great discomfort, but they still managed to smile and forget their illness for just a short moment whilst the characters chatted and joked with the children. Sometimes it's the smaller more intimate events such as these that are some of the most enjoyable and rewarding. Look forward to the next one.

Cardiff Star Wars event - Marriott Hotel December 18th 2005
A cold December day didn't deter the crowds from flocking to the Marriott Hotel (good name!) in Cardiff for the Star Wars event. With an array of Star Wars actors with the likes of Dave Prowse and Jeremy Bullock to name a few, the UK Garrison was there in force too (excuse the pun). Garrison characters ranged from Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Stormtroopers, Death Star Gunner and an Imperial guard. Whilst the queues were waiting for the doors to open, the Garrison members made their entrance through the hotel main reception much to the delight of the crowds. Instantly the crowd swamped the Garrison members for photos. It felt that Imperial Hoth Troopers would have been better equipped for the cold that day, but the crowd reaction kept our minds off the freezing temperatures.

After shivering outside, the event officially opened it's doors and the crowds poured in. It was so packed inside there was hardly room to move, to the point where the Garrison members had to stay out of the main hall. The Garrison set up it's photo stand for members of the public to have their photos taken with the Star Wars characters in aid of charity. They were kept so busy, they ran out of photo paper! A sterling job was done and after getting more photo paper they managed to raise over £500, a fantastic achievement by everyone on the day!

As the hall was so packed a couple of us decided to walk around the hotel and scare some of the guests. We went up in the lift stopping on several floors to see what we would come across. As the lift stopped on the sixth floor a couple of children called their dad that the lift had arrived and as they ran into the lift, suddenly become face to face with 2 stormtroopers. The 2 children screamed, turned and ran for their lives! They dragged their dad back to see who was in the lift, this time with big smiles across their faces! Needless to say they didn't need asking twice about wanting to get into the lift to go down to the lobby.

Overall after a couple of teething problems with the organisers at the beginning, the event was a big success and the Garrison members where a very popular addition to the event and were as popular as the guest signings! Look forward to next years!

Film & TV Memorabilia Show - NEC B'ham 26th/27th November 2005
As I only attended the Sunday of the weekend, I can only comment on that day of events.

Well yet again I wasn't disappointed, what an excellent day of trooping! For the day I was assigned to Blue Squad and paired up with Dave Pointy Sweety Trooper! For most of the day we were posted by the drop off point for the car park buses. As members of the public entered the building, whether they were going to the Good Food Show or Memorabilia, they were stopped for bag searches and warned about not having any sweets!

Dave was obsessed about asking people for sweets so he could confiscate them and to give to little kids. It certainly went down well with the public and put a smile on everyones faces! Being his partner in crime for the day we accumilated quite a collection and array of confectionary. Almost outdid Willy Wonka!!
There were plenty of other great looking characters from the movie world by UK Garrison members ranging from Willy Wonka to a SG squad from Stargate as well as a selection of comic characters. The event itself was well supported by famous guests from film and television, ranging from the likes of George A Romero, Tom Savini, and the cast of Red Dwarf to name but a few. And not forgetting one of my hero's Jeff Wayne, writer and composer of the musical version of "The War of the Worlds". I was lucky enough to find the time inbetween troops to go to his stand and meet the man himself and have a quick chat.

Near the end of day a small group of us, consisting of Dave Pointy Trooper, Cookie, Martin and myself went around meeting the actors and having a few piccys taken. Denise Crosby from Star Trek NG fame being particualry nice and we got some sweets off her!! The rest of the troop caught up with us and had photo's taken with several of the stars to finish off what was a great day.
Again I would like to thank all those in the garrison who do all the behind the scenes stuff which make these events run so smooth and well. Another big thank you to everyone who helped with the repair work on my failing armour! And as ever it was a pleasure meeting everyone again.
