Since I posted last I did half a days filming on a new childrens programme The Legend of Dick and Dom, anyone who knows them they are very silly and their humour is very slapstick. It was set (loosely) in medieval times and is a 10 part series starting in January on the BBC. Thankfully I probably won't be seen as it was just standing next to the main characters listening to someone doing a speech. It was just the one scene so I really doubt I will be seen. All I know it was very cold but filmed at a beautiful castle called Allington near Maidstone.

On a better note I have been approached by some students at Derby Uni to appear as the main character in their first film of their course work. It will be a 5 minute short about a woman who's boyfriend commited suicide and she goes through a mental breakdown when she starts to see him appear around her. Filming should start in the next couple of weeks.

I also went to an audition for a new online soap opera and got through the first stages of the audition, I'm waiting for the next audition script to come through to learn for the next stage. Will let you know how it goes.

Also the big Movie Mania weekend is coming up at the Space Centre in Leicester on the 15th/16th Nov, I shall be going along as 2 characters this time, my Alien costume will be worn for the first part of each day and I shall hopefully be wearing my new Elizabeth Swann costume for the second half. The costume is almost complete, I will post some piccies up shortly of it's progress.

Later

JoMARVIN

Hey!
I just found out that the short film I did "The Last Saxon" has now been uploaded onto You Tube, so you can now watch it and see what you think. Considering it was a Student film on a very low budget I think the guys did a fantastic job. Here is the link The Last Saxon

Also a friend of mine Angela who I met through the Xena conventions has made a Xena music video. Now now that may not sound much, but on the Official Lucy Lawless Fan Club website they ran a competition for the fans to make a music video that would be played at Lucy's concert in San Francisco on 27th September. 4 video's would be played on a screen behind Lucy during the concert, and Angela's was one of the 4 chosen and played in front of hundreds of fans! Well done Angela! The cool thing about this video is it contains footage of yours truely from the Xena sword fight show I did a few years back at one of the London Xena convention. I have posted a link to watch the video as it is really cool and I find it really funny to see footage of me mixed in with Lucy!GRIN Here is the link Angela's Video.

Enjoy!

JoMARVIN

Cavalcada Històrica, Valencia, Spain - 9th October 2008

On October 9th, Valencia was treated to a highly authentic recreation of 1428’s civic cavalcade, originally commissioned by Alfonso the Magnanimous to honor the memory of King James I. Over 700 characters lined the city streets, just as in 1428 as medieval musicians, banner twirlers, performers, costume characters, gigantic bulls, soldiers and over 100 horses carrying Lords and Ladies, standard bearers, light cavalry and 15 heavily armoured knights.

Almost 100,000 people lined the streets and endured the rain to watch this amazing spectacle which wound its way across the old medieval part of Valencia. This years celebrations were the biggest ever (and expensive 500,000 Euros) as it commemorated the 800th anniversary of the birth of King James I.

I was one of the 15 knights at the front of the parade on a beautiful horse called Thiea (I've spelt it how it sounds!) All along the route flags marking the heraldry of the knights lined the streets, they matched the beautiful 'caparisons' (horse coverings) on the knights horses.

The weather sadly was not on our side and the rain got gradually heavier. This unfortunately effected the parade as many events that were arranged along the route had to be cancelled. One of these events was a performance in a large marbled Plaza, but due to the wet making it treacherous under foot for the horses it didn't happen. It was around here that some of the horses lost their footing but thankfully no horse or riders were seriously injured. Also a grand firework display was due to end the parade but was also called off, all this effected the timing of the parade which ended earlier than hoped.
Thankfully the crowds were so enthusiastic and never stopped cheering and waving all the way around and so many photos were taken. There is some television footage of the event, it is a little long winded and of course all in Spanish but it certainly will give you an idea of how big and exciting the event was. You can see me every now and then in the parade if your quick enough! Here is the link Televison Footage.

After the parade and back at the museum, formally a medieval convent with a lovely open courtyard was where the participants of the parade were based, we dried off and packed up our kit ready for the journey back. We then had about a 15 minute MAD walk back to where we were staying, now that doesn't sound mad and the distance wasn't, it was what was happening with the weather that was!! The rain at the start of the parade had now turned into one of the craziest storms I have ever witnessed. Thunder and lightening hit Valencia big time and the rain was unbelievable! I since learned that 6cm fell in an hour and in total approx 20cm rain fell causing floods all over the Valencian region. Sean and I had to walk back in this, so I wore a bin liner over my tophalf and my medieval leggings were open to the elements. Sean was wrapped in some packing cling film stuff you wrap around packing crates we found in a corner and we stepped out into the flood!GRIN
OMG! how wild was that! No word of a lie the water walking back was half way up my shins and filled my fur lined leather caterpillar boots! Ergh!!! Worst of all these were the only boots I had so I had to go home in them the next day! Things were floating past us as we walked along, I half expected to see Sean float past too! When we got back to the hostel the reception was under several inches of water! It was funny until you realised you had soggy clothes to take back home :P

On the journey back you could tell where I had walked, there were puddle footprints across the departure lounge at the airport!!

Would I do it again, definately! The weather did it's best to put a dampner on the event, and physically it did, but not mentally, it was an experience that doesn't present itself often in ones lifetime.

Thanks to Sean, and Griffin Historical for organising our part of the cavalcade.

Herstmonceux Observatory Astronomy Festival - September 7th 2008

A little late on the report but I wanted to wait for the photos and thanks to Mark who took them it was worth the wait.

The Astronomy centre held it's annual festival with 3 days of events and activites. As well as guest speakers and trade stalls the public could also tour and view the telescopes. The main guest was Sir Patrick Moore who apart from his guest appearance was also doing a talk called "My View of the Moon".

On the Sunday of the 3 day event was the family activity fun day with lots for the kids to do, making and launching air powered rockets as well as all the hands on displays inside.

The UKG were invited to attend again and keep the crowds in order and entertained. We were kept busy with the kids and many press ups were enforced! One of the highlights for us and apparently for him was having our photo taken with the great man himself Sir Patrick Moore.

It was a really great day, the weather held off and was really good as the days running up to the event had been really bad. As ever the company of my fellow UKGers made it a lot of fun and we were well looked after by the Astronomy Centre. Fed and watered and that Chocolate cake! uummGRIN.

And to top off a great day was when we went back to the Canteen and re-enacted Eddie Izzards Death Star Canteen sketch, absolutely classic and the trays really were wet!!!

I would like to thank Don, Glen, Lisa and Mark (thank you Mark for taking such great photos) and of course Sean.

Well you may have guessed from the lack of posting I didn't get the acting job I auditioned for which I had high hopes. I was really gutted but I guess it's a part of the acting world! (still doesn't make it any easier though!)
Well you can see below I posted my write up of my days filming on Doctors, I still have a report of a UKG event at Herstmonceux Astronomy Centre, just waiting on the photo's to come through which should be at some point this week.
One bit of great news is I have got some work at a very special event next week. I will be part of the largest ever seen medieval parade of over 130 mounted knights and soldiers riding through an amazing event in Valencia, Spain. I am looking forward to it very much and of course will post up a report and photo's when I get back.GRIN
I have also just taken part in a photo shoot at the Space Centre in Leicester in my Alien costume along with Sean in his Marine costume to get some promotional photo's to advertise our costumes. Of course I will post a couple here when I get them so you can see how good they look. There will be some great shots from what I saw on the day, can't wait!

Later
JoMARVIN

Just a days filming as a police officer for a Christmas episode of Doctors. Filmed in the Harbourne area of Birmingham, as you can see from the photo a lovely sunny day for once! Typical when they try to convey that its winter! Just had a couple of scenes arriving in the police car and being outside the house when an ambulance arrives and you see me stop one of the episodes main characters trying to get to the girl being led into the ambulance.
I did suggest to someone in the crew they should make me a regular police character in the series, this is the third time I have appeared as a copper! :) AS usual everyone was very nice on set and as always a pleasure to work on Doctors.
